How It Works

Seven steps.
One person walking with you.

A simple, disciplined journey designed to address pastor mental health, reduce friction, and protect confidentiality at every step. The coordinator is the product, not the platform, not the checklist.

There is no cost to you as a pastor.
Care coordination through Pastors Anchor, Inc. is provided at no charge to you and your family. The program is funded through charitable donations and church sponsorships. You do not need to ask your church for permission, arrange payment, or justify your need. You simply reach out.
1
Entry
Confidential Entry, Self-Referral or Trusted Referral
A pastor reaches out directly, or through a trusted referral, a peer, counselor, or church leader who knows them. Entry points are discreet. No public registration. No notification to your church or denomination.
You don't need a reason ready or the right words. Reaching out is enough.
2
Confidential Intake
A Personal, Confidential Conversation
A non-clinical intake conversation helps us get to know what you're going through and gathers information across the four support lanes.
Talk with someone who cares about you and what you're going through.
3
Risk Triage
Immediate Assessment, Crisis, Struggling, or Stable
Every intake is triaged by the coordinator. Crisis cases receive an immediate response. Any indication of imminent harm surfaces crisis resources immediately. Otherwise, the coordinator reviews and responds within one business day.
Crisis: paged immediately. Struggling: response within one business day.
4
Care Plan Development
A Written Plan Across All Four Lanes
The coordinator co-creates a written, one-page care plan identifying priorities, recommended referral professionals, pacing, and follow-up schedule. This is your plan, you review it, you consent to it, and you remain in control of every step.
Four-lane structure. One-page output. You own it.
5
Coordinated Connection
Warm Handoffs to Vetted Professionals
The coordinator facilitates direct introductions to licensed counselors for pastoral counseling, vetted financial advisors, spiritual directors, and other professionals, removing every scheduling barrier so care actually happens. You never get handed a list to navigate alone.
48-hour warm-handoff engagement benchmark. Every referral tracked.
6
Continuity & Follow-Up
Structured Check-Ins at Every Milestone
Structured follow-ups at 14, 30, 90, 180, and 365 days. Wellbeing instruments (brief, structured self-assessments measuring pastor burnout, stability, and progress) delivered before each checkpoint. Care plans adjusted based on progress. No pastor drops off without the coordinator knowing and reaching out.
5-checkpoint cadence. Drop-off flagged automatically. Care plan evolves with you.
7
Stabilization
Long-Term Health, Not a One-Time Fix
As conditions improve, support shifts from active coordination to light-touch monitoring and preventive check-ins. A pastor who is stable is a pastor who can serve their congregation with passion, be fully present with their family, and have the necessary clergy wellness support for long-term, fruitful ministry.
Stabilization is the goal. Long-term pastoral wellbeing is the mission.

We own the journey, so you don't have to carry it alone

The Four Lanes

Every dimension of
pastoral strain is addressed.

Burnout doesn't arrive through one door. It compounds across emotional, financial, leadership, and family pressures simultaneously. Addressing only one dimension provides temporary relief while the root causes continue to fester. Pastors Anchor breaks the cycle by coordinating care across all four, getting to the root cause, not just the symptoms.

Emotional & Mental Health
Burnout is fundamentally an emotional crisis. Pastors carry tremendous weight, congregants' grief, conflict, trauma, and expectations, with nowhere to set it down. This lane connects pastors to licensed, trauma-informed counselors who understand ministry life, reduces the stigma of seeking help, and provides crisis resources when intensity requires them.
Licensed counselorsTrauma-informed careCrisis protocolsBurnout reductionSession subsidies
Financial Stabilization
Financial pressure is one of the most common, and least discussed, drivers of pastoral burnout. Compensation packages that lag comparable roles, housing tied to employment, benefit structures that discourage seeking help, all compound stress. This lane connects pastors to clergy-specialized financial advisors and provides emergency assistance for acute situations.
Clergy-specific advisingBudget coachingDebt guidanceEmergency assistanceCompensation review
Leadership & Ministry Sustainability
Many pastors entered ministry deeply called but structurally underprepared for the leadership realities they face: church conflict, role overload, boundary erosion, decision fatigue, and the isolation of senior leadership. This lane addresses the systemic conditions that produce burnout, not just the symptoms.
Conflict coachingBoundary frameworksWorkload redesignRole clarityMinistry rhythms
Family Wellbeing
The pastor's spouse absorbs more than most people see, the public role, the relational demands, the financial uncertainty, the fishbowl pressure, often without any support of their own. This lane includes marriage and family therapy when both spouses consent.

Confidentiality

What is shared.
What is not.
And what you can count on.

Confidentiality is not a policy at Pastors Anchor. It is architecture. An unauthorized person cannot see a record. This page explains exactly what that means in plain language.

How your information is classified

Every piece of information you share is handled according to its sensitivity tier. Higher tiers have stricter access controls and stronger encryption.

Tier 1, Most Sensitive
Meeting Notes and Care Plan Content
May contain crisis indicators, sensitive meeting content, and information related to mandatory-reporting concerns. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Access is restricted through authenticated user roles, protected pages, record-level filters, and minimum-necessary field visibility.
Tier 2, Sensitive
Your Name & Contact Info
Church, denomination, contact details. Database-level encryption at rest. Accessible only to your assigned coordinator.
Tier 3, Operational
Checkpoint Schedule & Status
Referral status, communication timestamps. Encrypted at rest. Accessible to your assigned coordinator only.
Tier 4, Aggregated
Anonymous Outcome Data
Counts, trajectories, aggregate outcomes for donor reports. Computed via one-way aggregation. Can never be linked back to any individual.
Your church is never notified
No information about your engagement with Pastors Anchor, including whether you ever contacted us, is shared with your church, employer, or any church leadership.
No denomination involvement
Your denominational body or network receives no information about you. Pastors Anchor is a neutral third party with no denominational affiliation or obligation.
Spouse records are completely separate
Your spouse has their own file, their own consent, and their own access controls, fully independent from yours. Even you cannot see their record without their explicit consent.
Donors see no individual data
Every donor, foundation, and church sponsor receives only aggregated, anonymized outcomes. If a report can't be produced without identifying you, it is not produced.
Role-based access enforced at the database
Access control is enforced at the database layer, not just the application. This means no software bug can accidentally expose your record to someone not authorized to see it.
Audit logs track every access
Every time your record is accessed, by whom, when, from where, is permanently logged. These logs cannot be deleted by any staff member. They exist to protect you.
When confidentiality has limits, and you'll know in advance

Pastors Anchor is not a licensed clinical provider, but we adopt the same mandatory disclosure standards as regulated providers. These are the only circumstances under which information may be disclosed without your consent, and you are told about them in plain language before intake begins, so you are never surprised.

Imminent risk of harm to self, suicidal ideation with a plan or means
Imminent risk of harm to others
Suspected abuse of a minor, elder, or vulnerable adult
A valid court order or subpoena, reviewed by legal counsel before any response
You have our word.

We know that trust is earned, not claimed. Every structural decision we have made, every policy we have written, and every system we have built has been designed with one question in mind: "Would a pastor who is afraid trust this?" We believe the answer is yes, and we intend to prove it, one relationship at a time. If you have questions about how we protect your information, call us. We will walk you through it personally.

The Spouse Program

Finally, someone
sees them too.

A pastors wife carries more than most people see. The public role. The relational demands. The fishbowl pressure. The financial uncertainty. They deserve their own safe space, completely independent from the pastor's care record.

"If the pastor program communicates 'We care for you,' the spouse program must clearly communicate 'We see you, too, and you are just as important.'"
Absolute Isolation

Their file is
architecturally separate.

Spouse confidentiality is not a policy, it is a structural design decision. Even the coordinator assigned to the pastor does not automatically have access to the spouse's record.

What "separate" means in practice

Her record has a unique ID independent of the pastors record
Her consent documents are signed independently, not covered by the pastors consent
Staff assigned to the pastors case do not automatically access her record
Their access logs are tracked independently
Even the pastor cannot see their file without their explicit written consent
They may have a different coordinator than the pastor, and often will

Her follow-up cadence

The spouse's check-in schedule is intentionally different from the pastor's five-checkpoint cadence, shorter intervals, more relational, less structured.

1W
1-Week Check-In
First touchpoint after intake, relational, not clinical
3W
3-Week Check-In
Progress review, adjustments to support offered
6W
6-Week Check-In
Evaluation of engagement and what's most helpful
+
Ongoing Relational Contact
Longer-interval, relationship-based check-ins based on engagement

Spouse entry at launch is invitation-based, offered through the pastors intake or later as trust builds. Direct spouse self-entry (Model 3) is supported by the platform and activated when the organization is ready, typically in Year 2.

We are proving the model before we scale it. Sarasota is our home base, but the Year 1 pilot serves pastors across the broader Suncoast and Southwest Florida region, from Tampa to Fort Myers.

Six counties.
One regional pilot.

Every pastor record includes county and regional tags. The provider network is filterable by geographic coverage. Year 2–3 expansion is a configuration change, not a rebuild.

Why we're starting here

Florida combines multiple pastoral stress factors: rapid population growth, high cost of living, megachurch density, and frequent pastoral transitions. Many pastors relocate to Florida seeking renewal, only to encounter intensified expectations with fragmented local support. Florida is America's early-warning system for national trends in pastoral health. If we can prove this model works here, we can take it anywhere.

Our Team

Built by people who
believe in this work.

Three individuals with complementary gifts united around a single conviction: We shouldn't keep asking pastors to be stronger. We should build a better system of care and support around them.

LH
Logan Hall
President & Chief Executive Officer
Logan provides the vision, strategic leadership, and external relationships that drive Pastors Anchor forward. He leads fundraising, donor cultivation, and overall organizational direction, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. He holds final operational authority and serves as the primary ongoing legal and partnership contact.

In Year 1, Logan also serves as backup care coordinator, trained on intake and triage, available for Crisis escalations and coverage.
ES
Erik Smoot
Director of Pastoral Care
Erik is the operational heart of the care model, and the trust anchor of the entire organization. As primary Care Coordinator, he owns every pastors journey end-to-end: intake, triage, care plan, referrals, follow-up, and stabilization.

Erik's judgment, pacing, and relational capacity are what Pastors Anchor actually delivers. The platform amplifies his work, it does not replace it.
CA
Chris Absher
Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships
Chris leads the development and growth of Pastors Anchor, building relationships with donors, churches, foundations, and strategic partners. He manages the church sponsorship program, foundation grant applications, and the ecosystem partnerships that extend the organization's reach and impact.

In Year 1, Chris also serves as backup care coordinator alongside Logan.
"We are building something that outlasts us, impacts pastors nationally, and honors God in structure and execution."
— Pastors Anchor Leadership Covenant
For Churches

A pastor in crisis costs
far more than prevention.

When a pastor leaves, whether suddenly or after years of quiet decline, the financial and relational cost to a congregation is substantial. Beyond the numbers, there is a harder cost: the erosion of trust that takes years to rebuild. Pastors Anchor is leadership stability infrastructure.

What church partnership means

Safe Referral Pathway
Give your pastor a confidential clergy support pathway to seek help, without church politics, employment risk, or reputational concern.
Zero Individual Reporting to You
As a sponsor, you receive only anonymized aggregate outcomes. You invest in your pastors wellbeing, we provide the care, and you never see their individual file.
Reduce Transition Risk
Investing in clergy wellness through earlier intervention means fewer forced exits, shorter vacancies, and significantly less disruption to giving and congregational stability.

For Providers

Join the vetted
provider network.

Pastors Anchor does not provide therapy, financial advice, or spiritual direction directly. We curate, vet, and connect pastors to a trusted ecosystem of licensed professionals who do.

Note: Joining the provider network begins with an initial conversation, not an online application. We vet carefully because our pastors trust us completely.

Licensed Counselors & Therapists
Trauma-informed clinicians with experience serving ministry leaders. Understanding of the unique stressors of pastoral life is essential.
Spiritual Directors
Trained directors with experience supporting ministry leaders through vocational discernment, spiritual dryness, and identity challenges.
Burnout Specialists
Practitioners with demonstrated experience in occupational burnout recovery, particularly in high-responsibility, public-facing roles.
Financial Advisors
Advisors with specific experience serving clergy, understanding of housing allowances, self-employment tax, denominational benefits, and ministry compensation structures.
Marriage & Family Counselors
Licensed MFTs with pastoral family experience. Understanding the unique pressures of ministry marriages and PKs (pastors kids) is valued.
Retreat Centers
Facilities offering respite, renewal, and structured rest, particularly those with experience hosting pastors and ministry leaders.

The vetting process

1
Initial Conversation
A direct conversation with our Director of Pastoral Care to understand your practice, experience, and approach to clergy care.

Licensure, credentials, malpractice insurance, and any specialty certifications relevant to pastoral care.
3
References
Professional references specific to your experience with ministry leaders or similar high-responsibility populations.
4
Trial Referral

Your church is never notified, not even that you contacted us.
Your denomination receives nothing about you.
Donors and sponsors see only anonymized aggregate data, never individual records.
Access to your record is restricted to your assigned coordinator only.
Limits of confidentiality (you won't be surprised): Disclosure is required if you indicate imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a minor, or if ordered by a court. These are explained in our full confidentiality policy.
